“It’s a great game to waste some time in, especially if you enjoy political satire and hectic, arcade-style “shooters”, but I wouldn’t recommend buying the game at full price. Get it when it’s bundled.”Election Simulator puts you into the shoes of a politician who’s running a campaign and naturally, your goal is to get as many votes as you can… whatever means necessary. The gameplay is basically the same as what I’d like to call a swarm-based “shooter”, but instead of bullets, you’ll be throwing cash at potential voters, mainly hobos (oddly enough, normal folks won’t be converted into voters regardless of how much money you throw at them : You can also “repair” various public amenities like benches, public phone booths, and bus stops by hurling money at them. Like ammo, you’ll run out of money eventually, so thankfully, there are many ATMs (and also bankers and money pallets) around where you can replenish your stacks of cash. Once you’ve gained enough voters (the game will let you know via a short cutscene), you can then hop onto the stage and give your speech… like real politicians do. You just need to pick the correct stuff to say while you’re on stage – it’s very obvious what you are expected to choose – and you’re ready to move on to the next level.The game comes with 10 levels in total and they do gradually become a lot harder because the map becomes more crowded (lots of obstacles). You’ll also encounter tougher “people” who couldn’t be bought with the cash you throw at them. You just need to run around and avoid these special people so that they don’t dirty your suit. Overall, I’d say Election Simulator is the sort of game that you can just turn off your brain and play. It’s fun and the game is oozing in sarcasm that’s targeted at the typical politician. However, the gameplay does feel oddly familiar – it feels like a reskined and re-themed version of another game, and the game is awfully short. In just 20 minutes, I’m already more than halfway through the game.
